Governance
Governance is like the trellis for a garden. Careful, informed, and wise foundational structures set the course for healthy organizations.
The RCSA operates semi-autonomously from Regent College. The RCSA Council members are accountable to the Dean of Students, engage with various internal stakeholders, and manage student fees autonomously.
RCSA Constitution
The constitution includes the fundamental principles which govern the operations of the RCSA. It is subject to a comprehensive review every five years. All amendments must be approved by the Dean of Students, publicly posted for ten days, and then obtain the Council’s simple majority votes to be in effect.
Council meetings
Council meetings occur every other week throughout the academic year (except Reading Weeks). All council members must attend at least 75% of the meetings. The meetings abide by Robert’s Rules of Order, including prepared agendas ahead of the meeting and minutes that are sent out afterwards. All minutes are archived for reference. The Executive Council meets on the alternating weeks. Meetings are open to RCSA members, given the meeting is not called as a confidential (in-camera) meeting.
rcsa bylaws
Bylaws establish the specific rules of guidance by which the group is to function. They provide further definition to the constitution. All amendments must by approved by the Dean of Students, shared with the Council for seven days prior to voting, and obtain the Council’s simple majority to be in effect.
annual reports
Every spring, the Executive Council Members prepare an annual report for the RCSA. The report includes a financial report along with a brief reflection and report from each executive member. Feedback from the reports can be considered for the upcoming year’s financial plans.
Secondly, the RCSA President submits a report to the Board three times a year to inform the Board Members about the student experience, concerns, and needs.
