Council Members

The RCSA Council is made up of elected students who seek to represent student voices across the College’s governing groups (academic, institutional, co-curricular), cultivate community connection, and partner with the Dean of Students Office to serve the study body in co-curricular spaces.

Executive Council

President - Clayton Cullaton

I’m in my final year as a MATS-NT student. My wife and my two daughter live on campus, where we’ve experienced and witnessed what Jesus can do in a student’s time here. And we are eager to see what he will do in the coming year. Your time at Regent will be inspiring, joyful, and also challenging. I want to help create a culture where we can each thrive as we are being formed together.

I’m eager to hear from you about what you’re experience is like, and to learn what might help you get the most from this special season.

VP Academic - Zella Christenson

Hello! I am so excited to be serving the Regent community as your Academic Vice President this year! The classroom has always been a place where I’ve richly encountered the presence and mystery of God (ask me about the time I wept in Organic Chemistry at the beauty of the Krebs Cycle). I long to see students flourish academically, not for the sake of grades and transcripts, but because of the rich Christian formation that occurs through our studies at the intersection of discipline, humility, wonder, and love. Regent is home to a beautifully diverse community, coming from different educational, cultural, and vocational backgrounds. My primary goal on the RCSA is to listen to the breadth of students’ academic experiences. As I listen to your stories, I desire to bring your voices to the college so that Regent may continue to develop a more hospitable pedagogy that equips the Global Church for the 21st century and that enables all students to flourish and be formed in Christ through their studies at Regent.

VP Student-Life - Jeremy Derksen

I am a third year MATS student with an Interdisciplinary concentration. I grew up in Southern Ontario, and have also lived and worked in the United States, Costa Rica, and Sweden where I served various roles within the field of education before coming to Regent.

Through my role as VP Student Life, I will oversee community-wide events and council initiatives that seek to address the social, pragmatic, and spiritual needs of students, and I will advocate for these needs on various committees. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions regarding the student experience here at Regent, I’d love to hear from you.

Elizabeth Van Bebber

This year, I’m serving in the role of Vice President of Operations, where I oversee the RCSA’s financial and logistical operations. If you need any help renting a locker, have questions about the finances or operations of the RCSA, need help accessing any of the services we provide, or have feedback to give regarding the college’s financial aid policies, I would be happy to connect with you!

Members-at-Large

Arts - JP Nikuze

My name is Jean Pierre, I'm in my second year in the MATS program. I currently serve as the Arts MAL, where I represent artists on the student council. I'd be happy to chat with you about the form(s) of art you practice, and how, together, we can make Regent a place where you feel inspired to create, a place where you grow as an artist even as you grow in your love for God.

Community -
Laura Kilpatrick

Hi I’m Laura from Northern Ireland. I am the Community rep for the RCSA this year. I’m looking forward to hearing how we can help foster community for you in Regent this year! I will be coordinating Gathering Table meals, Pub Night and new community initiatives.

Families - Matt Onishi

I am motivated by my recognition that each of the various groups at Regent need representation in the student government (and the college's governing bodies) for their concerns to be heard. For many of us, the time commitments of school, family, work, and church makes participation in the broader community unfeasible, or at least taxing. I am not looking to host more events or add commitments onto the plate of our families; rather, I hope that I can represent our concerns and needs to the council in a way that would help them understand what the families of Regent desire from their community.

Prayer - Sean Beckett

I am a MATS student and I'm honored to be part of the RCSA this year. As Prayer Member At Large, I organize the Wednesday afternoon "Lord, Teach Us to Pray" sessions in which Regent Faculty members lead us in practices of corporate prayer.

Let me know of other prayer events happening that we should advertise, and please let me know how I can be praying for you.

Spiritual Formation
- Sara Apostoaei

I serve in this role because I care deeply about spiritual formation and who we, as individuals and as a collective body are becoming. It is one of the primary reasons I chose to come to Regent. I think that the most important thing about the Christian life is attaining to Christ-likeness, having a character shaped by Christ. This does not happen overnight, and is not an ad hoc process, but takes intentionality, discipline, and life in community. I want to be a part of creating an environment where we can encounter God in our academics and day to day life, and as such be transformed.

M.Div - Sandra Lee

As a seasoned M.Div. student, I have been involved in and participated in M.Div events and programs. I understand that the M.Div Pastoral Formation Committee seeks to listen to students' voices, hoping to assist M.Div students in serving the church as faithful followers of Jesus. I believe the church's future highly depends on M.Div. students' formation and experience, and I also care deeply for the church's future and each student's journey. Having lived in different countries in Asia, I have observed our distinct spiritualities and other ways of living and relating. I hope to listen more closely, especially to other cultures' voices and experiences, and represent M.Div students' voices honestly. I hope to facilitate more fruitful conversations and together strive to cultivate a kind of belonging that our church and world long for to better serve our global multicultural church.

International Students

- Freeman Lam

Hello! My name is Freeman Lam and I am the International Student MAL. As a local Vancouverite, I am so excited to support you all during your time at Regent, to help you feel welcomed, and to welcome all that you bring as International Students! Growing up in a Hong Kong Chinese household, my family has strived to be very intentional in helping us build bridges as a Chinese Canadians. It definitely was not all smooth sailing, but I can confidently say, in continuing to explore and love who God has created me to be on this earth, I am growing in love for those different from myself.

As we enter into a new academic year, I would love to know how to be praying for you, what questions and curiosities you may have about life in Vancouver, and how I can help you feel a little less home sick (I've learned that snacks go a long way)! Whatever it may be, I hope to be your man!

Remote Learning
- Kendall Facer

Hi there! My name is Kendall Facer and I have the privilege of serving as your Remote Learning MAL this year. I am in my second year of the M.Div program and currently live in Nashville, Tennessee. I am looking forward to representing the voices and experiences of each remote learning student as Regent develops its online presence. If you are learning at Regent outside of Vancouver and have questions or concerns regarding your time at the school, please do not hesitate to reach out to me!

Maybe it’s YOU!

In September we will hold an election to select a new student to represent new students on the council!
